Israel’s Independence Day (Yom HaAtzmaut), when the nation joyfully celebrates the establishment of the modern state of Israel, comes after a week of sad remembering. The day prior to Yom HaAtzmaut is Memorial Day (Yom HaZikaron) honoring the soldiers who have fallen in Israel’s wars. Exactly one week before that is Yom HaShoah, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, when all Israel remembers the six million Jews murdered during the Second World War.

Every nation, no matter how large or how great, is under the sovereignty of God. Every leader, war, success, or failure is a part of the plan of God. What is sovereignty?  Sovereignty is the total right to take authority over a geographic region or over a group of people, such as a nation or tribe. Throughout the Scriptures, we can see that God is the Creator, a truth that is under attack in our days.
